May 26th, 2023 | 5 min. read
Hiring the right commercial roofing company is no small task. Expertise varies widely, and vetting different companies and quotes can be time-consuming and tedious. And the price for hiring the wrong outfit can run into the hundreds of thousands of dollars.
At GIDEON, we have over 20 years of experience crafting great roofing solutions for building owners and facilities managers. Still, we understand that not everyone is a great fit for us.
Fortunately, the Kansas City area has several award-winning commercial roofing contractors with stellar reputations, so you have other options! To that end, we've compiled a handy list of the ten best commercial roofing companies in Kansas City. No matter your roofing problem, you're sure to find someone you can work with in the list below.
The Flynn Group
The Flynn Group purchased Sellers & Marquis, a long-established Kansas City roofing company, in 2015. Sellers & Marquis was Kansas City's oldest roofing company, founded in 1878, whose projects included the historic Union Station and other iconic Kansas City buildings. The Flynn Group acquired Sellers & Marquis not only because of their outstanding reputation but also because their quality and craftsmanship allowed them to do complex, high-end projects. You can see their white service trucks with the green "Flynn" all over town.
Kaw Valley Roofing & Sheet Metal
Kaw Valley was founded in 1923 by Tom Daly, who later became the National Roofing Contractors Association president in 1937. Today the business is run by Tom's grandsons, Bob, John, and Steve Daly. The Daly family is a leader in both the Kansas City and national roofing markets. Each year they host the Michael Daly Memorial Scholarship Foundation with the support of the entire Kansas City roofing community. It's always a great time, and the money goes to providing scholarships to those affiliated with the Kansas City roofing, sheet metal, and construction industries.
Cornell Roofing & Sheet Metal Company
Another long-standing Kansas City roofing and sheet metal company, Cornell, was established in 1927 and helped build the iconic Kansas City skyline. Cornell is owned by Mary McNamara, who purchased the company in 2007 and comes from a family of Kansas City roofing professionals who helped set the bar for roofing excellence in the city.
They are a union labor shop and compete on the most complex jobs in the city. Frequently you will see their trucks in local school districts, the Kansas City Zoo, local hospitals, or even the Kansas Speedway.
Mary and her team also work closely with the area's leading General Contractors, such as JE Dunn, Turner Construction, Rand Construction Company, and McCown Gordon.
Kirberg
Although the Kirberg family business didn't start in Kansas City, they are still from the great state of Missouri - located in St. Louis. Charles Kirberg founded the company in 1920 and established a legacy of excellence in roofing that the company carries on today, four generations later. Kirberg is well known for marrying old-world craftsmanship with modern technology, as their tagline states: "True to our brand, Old-World Craftsmanship + Tomorrow's Technology, we strive to set and raise the standard for professionalism and innovation in the roofing industry."
Kirberg also has a reputation for safety, with an outstanding EMR score of 0.59, a metric insurance companies use to rate contractors for safety.
With offices in Kansas City, St. Louis, and Springfield, and over 250 team members, Kirberg serves a large portion of the Midwest.
Delta Innovative Services
Although Delta Innovative Services hasn't been around as long as Kaw Valley or Cornell, they are a multi-generational family business that's earned a reputation for being one of the most awarded roofers in the public roofing market on buildings such as schools and municipalities.
One of Delta's most famous and challenging projects was the top of the World War I memorial. Working high up in the air, in tight quarters, Delta's workers roofed and waterproofed one of the nation's most valued memorials.
Another Delta legacy is some of their "green roof" projects in the downtown area, where they transformed rooftops into beautiful, usable spaces with courtyards, pergolas, fields of grass, ornamental shrubs, and even trees.
The Quality Roofing Company
The Quality Roofing Company is another excellent example of a Kansas City organization that started way back in the 1920s. Quality Roofing not only produces quality work, they're also known for developing some of the best roof mechanics around. In fact, some of their employees have gone on to start roofing companies of their own using the same integrity and craftsmanship they learned at Quality.
Some of their best work can be found at famous landmarks such as Country Club Plaza; St. Luke's Hospital; and Kansas City's Cerner Corporation, the largest EHR (Electronic Health Record) vendor in the world.
You can find the Quality team at their headquarters in the historic West Bottoms of Kansas City.
Compass Roofing
Compass Roofing made the list as one of the up-and-comers in the Kansas City roofing market. They got their start in 2012, and although they may not have the tenure of a Flynn Group, Compass is making great strides in the commercial roofing space, recently earning the 2023 Missouri Small Business of the Year award.
They were recently awarded the opportunity to roof a portion of the recent $1.5 billion expansion of the newly constructed Kansas City International Airport (MCI).
BlueChip Roofing & Waterproofing
Blue Chip Roofing & Waterproofing is another rising star in the Kansas City commercial roofing market. They got their start in 2019, so they are fresh as a corporation, but the owners have done a magnificent job pulling in some of the best veteran talent in the city. Most new roofing companies don't take on the larger, more complex projects Blue Chip has, but they've hired the right people. These projects require great skill and attention to detail, and they've done an excellent job.
Easton Roofing
Over the past ten years, the founder and CEO of Easton Roofing has been hard at work growing a thriving local Kansas City roofing business that sets the bar for attention to detail and the customer experience.
Although Easton got their start as a steep slope asphalt shingle specialist, over the past several years, they've developed into a very competitive commercial roofing applicator. They are certified with the roofing industry's leading material and roof system manufacturers and make it a point to provide their employees with up-to-date skills and product knowledge training.
A niche for Easton Roofing in the commercial roofing market is their passion for restoring roofs rather than replace them - providing their customers with high-value, cost-saving roof coatings systems.
Christian Brothers Roofing
Christian Brothers Roofing was founded by Scott Hostmann in 2007. This is a true Northland company. Although they work throughout the Kansas City Metro, Christian Brothers became successful in helping homeowners throughout the Clay County and Platte County areas.
Scott and his team have done well, earning top honors with GAF and other leading roofing manufacturers. In fact, in 2018, the Christian Brothers team earned the prestigious GAF President's Club Award offered to the "elite of the elite."
Although CBR is primarily a steep slope roofing company, they made this list because of their dedication to Kansas City building owners - providing the same great service for commercial roof systems as they do on their steep slope roofs.
